(Note: Before the battle the player and the son are locked in a cell once again) and finally the player must face off against the shadow figure, assumed to be the living manifestation of fear itself. So the player conquers all their fears and faces off against the neighbor one last time. The player was probably so overcome with his PTSD, that being lost in a supermarket or at school without his parents manifested themselves as reoccurring nightmares. He is forced to relive nightmares of being bullied at school, lost in the supermarket, and being trapped in a storage cabinet.Įach of these fears probably steaming from the events of Acts 1&2. The only way to wake from this nightmare is for the player to conquer his fears. In his mind the house is bigger than ever and the neighbor is back. The Player returns to his childhood home and all the nightmares keep coming back. To cope with his many fears the player moves away and tries to move on with his life. The player continues on with his life but is haunted by his PTSD, being terrified of not just the house but everything around him. Life goes on and the neighbors house slowly begins to rot away, with nobody wanting to leave in a house that had two deaths and multiple kidnappings happen within its walls. The truth about the neighbor is out there and he is taken to prison while his son is probably treated in a mental health facility. The player tells his parents what happened and they come to the rescue and call the police. We hear the sound of shattering glass as the son creates a distraction for us, allowing the player to get across the street and back home. But before he can catch up to us the son escapes the basement too. The neighbor can’t let us leave because he doesn’t want us to talk to the police and get his son taken away from him. As the player we know not to trust what we see, and what we see is the son helping us escape from the basement.Įventually, we not only escape the basement, but the house itself with the neighbor close on our trail. I do not believe it is a cut out, but the son himself. Then after some time has passed we see the card board cut out moving and freeing us from our cell. The Player witnesses the Neighbor trying to keep his son locked down in the basement so we go to investigate and end up getting kidnapped ourselves. Voices that are haunting both the neighbor and his son. When we originally enter the basement he hear the voices of the wife and the daughter. In every release of the game we never actually see anyone. There has never been anyone in the basement. So he puts up posters to cover his tracks and distract the public from what he is actually doing. Rather than turn his son into the police, he covers up his sons crime and makes it seem that both of the children have ran away from home. The Missing (Simming) Posters are the neighbors way of covering up what happened. This explains the look-alike room underground that was meant for the boy, and the psychotic screams that come from the basement. The anger from losing his mother, the pain from his fathers neglect, the self-hatred for killing his sister, and the loneliness of being hidden underground has driven the boy insane.
If the news got out his son would be imprisoned and the neighbor would be left alone. His wife has died, and his daughter was killed by his son. He doesn’t want to lose anymore of his family. The reason the neighbor does this is simple. This explains the coffin we find during Act Two of the original game. The Neighbor buries his dead daughter in the backyard. (Also shown by the rollercoaster death mini game) Due to this neglect, the son spirals out of control and accidentally pushes his sister off of a portion of the house that is under construction. The Neighbor is too distraught to comfort his children and just focuses on his own mourning.

In the wake of this accident, the neighbors son is filled with anger and he has no clue how to deal with it.
It begins with the tragic car accident and the death of the neighbors wife. But sadly instead of growing, his family slowly shrinks. They have just moved into a new house and the neighbor plans on building out to make a larger house for a larger family. The Neighbor has been living happily with his wife and kids. The story in this game seems pretty cut dry and clear.
